Kona Kailua Erckel's Frankolin Kalij Pheasant Golden Plover Spotted Dove Barred Dove Japanese White-Eye Common Mynah `Amakihi `Apapane `I`iwi Black-headed Munia House Sparrow Saffron Finch Yellow-Billed Cardinal Northern Cardinal House Finch Notes: Frankolin, Pheasant, `Amakihi, `Apapane, and `I`iwi were found on two trips (morning and evening) to Kaloko road in the hills above Kailua. The `I`iwi is a particularly `ilusive bird. The rest are common in the city of Kailua and surrounding fields. Volcano National Park White-Tailed Tropicbird Nene (Hawaiian Goose) Black Noddy `Oma`o (Hawaiian Thrush) `Elepaio (Hawaiian chickadee?) Mockingbird Notes: I saw four White-Tailed Tropicbirds soaring around Kaluea crater around 7:00 am. They were gone by 8:00. Black Noddies are common at the ocean cliffs. I was driving down a single-lane road near Kipuka Nene when I found a pair of eponymous geese. As I watched, these symbols of wild, prehistoric Hawai`i waddled up to my car to beg for food.
