Actually, there was a substantial response to the query about the word
gyrfalcon. But to make a long story short, the "gyr" is pronounced so
as to rhyme with "dear," and the "g" is soft.
Look up old postings for more on the name.
Redwings are back in Toronto as of two or three days ago. Perhaps spring
will come after all!
