Just finished driving from Salt Lake to Seattle. Lots of beautiful birds along the freeway. In the week since we drove to SLC Ospreys have appeared at American City (ID), Yakima (WA), Ellensbug, and Cle Ellum. Swainsons have moved in. Still a lot Rough-legs. Red-tails, lots of Kestrels, a few Golden Eagles, two prairie falcons (south of Baker OR), curlews in Utah and Idaho, a Bald Eagle in Yakima. Only disappointment was only one Ferugenous (sp?) hawk. [My wife was furious because I wouldn't stop more often, but I got a ticket last year in Washington for stopping to checkout a winter resident American Kestrel.] The Utah Audubon newsletter noted that an Ogden gentleman had banded a thousand pine ciskins (sp) this winter. I talked to a Utah wildlife officer who said it was really interesting watching the movement of the birds around the city as people reported the banded birds at their feeders. -- Opinions expressed are strictly my own: Shamus Mc Bride uucp: uw-beaver!uw-june!bcsaic!shamus (206) 865-3401 internet: shamus@boeing.com
