I have recently become the New Jersey State Coordinator for the Federally sponsored Breeding Bird Survey. Currently there are a number of routes available in New Jersey that desperately need coverage. Each route consists of 50 stops, each stop 1/2 mile apart. At each stop, you look and listen for exactly 3 minutes, recording all species seen or heard in that period. The data is then used to track species trends over the years. This year marks the 22nd year of the study. Because these routes are used to gether samples only, they are run only once, on the second or third week in June.
