[rec.birds] Birds in New England

lsilber@batcomputer.tn.cornell.edu (Linda Silber) (08/04/88)

I'm traveling to the New England coastal area mid-August and am hoping
to find some good spots for early migration. I plan to spend a day or two
on the Cape and then go up the coast to New Hampshire. I will travel into
the Maine coastline if there are some really "hot" spots anyone knows of.
Any suggestions would make this a really _great_ vacation for me and would
be extremely appreciated.

I've enjoyed the Rachel Carson Wildlife Preserve in Saco, Maine.
This is a very nice marsh with plentiful waterfowl. Over the years
I've seen glossy ibis, willets, godwits, herons, egrets, a variety
sandpipers and plovers, yellowlegs, commorants, etc. How much you see
will of course depend on the tide, patience, and just plain luck.
You can rent a canoe at the preserve and paddle through the marsh
for a different perspective.

Let me know if you need more information or precise directions.
