[rec.birds] birding in Western Washington

Saturday, Oct. 22, turned out to be a good day for birdwatching.
I made a trip to the Padilla Bay/Skagit Flats region in western
Washington, an area notorious for dense fog. It was great to
be outside, even though we could hear the guns of hunters in the
not-so-distant distance. We saw:

Common Loon
Western Grebe
Pied-billed Grebe
American Coot
Bald Eagle
Red-tailed Hawk (several immatures and some matures)
Northern Harrier
Crow
Raven
Starlings of course
American Robin
American Goldfinch (pale)
House Finch
Golden-crowned Kinglet
Chestnut-backed Chicadee
Black-capped Chicadee
Western Meadowlark --a surprise because we rarely see these west of
     the Cascades.
Scaup, tons and tons
American Widgeon
Pintail, tons and tons
Snow Goose
Canada Goose
Blue Heron
Belted Kingfisher
Mallard
Song Sparrow

A nice day all in all.
