Several of us went to Long Point on Sunday (19March) to see the annual Tundra Swan migration. We hit it right, this year, and saw probably 2000 birds! Nice birds. Also, a lot of other waterfowl, including probably 2000 Canvasbacks, 1500 Ring-necked Ducks, and smaller numbers of scaup (mostly greater), hooded and common mergansers, pintails, Buffleheads, goldeneyes, Mallards, Shovellers, wigeons, shovelers, and Green-winged Teal. Also, got an excellent look at two Rough-legged Hawks and a Fox Sparrow. Songbirds are just drifting in slowly, perhaps because the weather has been lousy for the past several days. Still, lots of grackles and redwings back, as well as Song Sparrows and some cowbirds. Also, lots of Killdeers. What's going on elsewhere? --Jim Rising -- Name: Jim Rising Mail: Dept. Zoology, Univ.
