***MOLUCCAN COCKATOO NEEDS HOME*** A couple who are friends of mine will need to find a new home for their beautiful 4 year old moluccan cockatoo soon. I'd told them about rec.birds and they thought it might be a good place to find experienced, responsible bird lovers, so . . . The bird is quite a character, displaying all the cockatoo behavior to the extreme. Very gregarious and a constant showoff. Loves to cuddle and be petted. A very vocal bird, with a combination of ``hellos,'' sharp, piercing jungle calls, and babble dialect somewhere in between. Loves to climb, swing on things, and chew on anything that will give under his beak. Normally gentle and affectionate, but not beyond an occasional nip if cross or frightened. This bird has always received a tremendous amount of attention (I should eat so good a breakfast), affection, and interaction with people, all of which show in the best and worst possible ways. He's an absolute joy when he's at his most lovable, but can be loud and complaining beyond belief when he's cranky. He's accustomed to being in his cage during the day and out with his owners at night. These are pretty typical traits for a cockatoo, they tell me. Job travel has gone up by factors for these people and they know their bird will suffer from absentee keepers. They don't want this to happen, so finding a suitable home is terribly important. They'd like to find him a new home within a day's drive in New England, but further away isn't out of the question, so long as it's the right environment. Between the bird and his cage, travel carrier, and other odds and ends, they have a couple of kilobucks invested. They haven't set a price because money is less important at this point than finding a quality home. Given the right new owner, they think they'll be able to agree on fair terms. If you're interested, or can help find a good home, please give me a call or drop me a note by email. Thanks. Leigh Cagan cagan@multiflow.com 203-488-6090 ext. 316 days 203-488-6367 eves.
