>I own a hand-fed peach-face lovebird. He's a great pet. I don't
>know a lot about the species. I would like to know how long they
>live.

I've asked a lot of people and I think that love birds can generally
live for about 20 years....that's really nice considering how much
these little guys cost.

>I think he's a male because of his behavior, and his plumage
>is very bright. He does a little dance for me and is always
>regurtating seeds onto my fingers, etc. I have heard that if you
>have a pair they become less tame, especially if they start
>breeding.

You know, that's exactly what I've heard but these guys are really
dependent to me...infact the Lutino constantly demands
attention...usually by chewing up my homework assignments,...etc...

>They bond to each other instead of you and become
>protective. My bird is very protective of me and will bite most
>people that try to touch him. He is quite jealous. He even nips my
>dogs nose if he gets a chance.

It's really nice have a small intelligent pet...I know that they can
regonize people simply because these two guys always try to crawl over
to me,...actually, this sort of brings up another question...do you
think I should have their wings clipped...because I remember when I
have a parakeet when I was young...the little guy would simply love to
fly around...I just think it might be better for them to have their
freedom.

But then again....the pet store owner did say that if these guys ever
flew top speed into a window...*&*splat*&$..!!

I keep my lovebird's wing clipped because the breeder suggested it.
If they get out the door its very hard to get them back. Sometimes
I think I should let the wing grow out but have decided to keep it
clipped because I like to take him outside with me, and then I don't
have to worry about doors or windows being open while he is out of
his cage.
