[rec.birds] Birding Stacks

jklee@phoenix.Princeton.EDU (James Kin Wah Lee) (07/13/89)

This is for the benefit of those birders who own or have access to
an Apple Macintosh and Hypercard:

You should check out two Hypercard stacks that are archived in
sumex-aim. One is the much-touted "Bird Anatomy" stack (v1.2).
Judging from only a couple of minutes of investigation, this stack
looks amazing! The second is a "Bird Info" stack and has a card
for each bird that may be found in North America (both east and west
of the Rockies). On the card you can record if the bird is a lifer
and any field notes that you may see fit to write down.

Both stacks may be ftp'd from sumex-aim.stanford.edu and are archived
in /info-mac/hypercard as:

bird-anatomy-part1.hqx (up to part 6)
birdinfo.hqx

The bird anatomy files are big, however (about 680 kb total), so
downloading will take a while. From what I've seen so far, it's
worth it!

Have fun,
JIM
