I started birding at a young age (8 or 9), but not at all in a serious way. We lived on the edge of a salt marsh swamp where lots of birds and mammals live I couldn't help knowing some of the more common birds. I started to get more serious when my dad got into wooden duck carving. His interest in carving led to an interest in birding. We would go out every Sunday morning (still do when I'm in town), stop by the Duchess Drive-In for a soggy egg sandwich and at Dunkin' Donuts for "good" coffee, then head out for the beaches and marshes allalong southern Long Island Sound. Dad's idea of birding was hooking up the spotting scope to the window of the car. We hardly ever got out! He does somehiking around now. I like to go camping and hiking for birds now. And I'm just learning the advantages of sitting or standing in one place for a good long time, getting a crick in the nec k, and maybe getting good and muddy while we're at it! ___ / *\ | < \_ _/ /))) \ /))))/ \ Look!!
