[rec.birds] missing cockatiel

wcapling@teknowledge-vaxc.ARPA (Wayne Caplinger) (08/23/89)

Our foolish house-sitter let one of our cockatiels go.

The bird has not been outside before, and is frightened by the sound of
Jays, which are common locally.
She is friendly toward people, and likely to land on someone's head.
To complicate matters, she still had two eggs to lay.
We live in a moderate-density suburb.

Does anyone know the typical behavior of a released cockatiel?
How far can she fly?
Will she be able to find her way back?
What are her chances of survival?

Thanks,
