[rec.birds] Birding the Northwest Coast

gmr044@leah.Albany.Edu (Gregg Recer) (08/25/89)

Howdy,

My wife and I are planning a 2 week vacation for next spring or
summer. We plan to fly to San Francisco, poke around there for a few days,
and then drive up the coast, do some camping along the way (Olympic NP
among other places) and then spend some time around Seattle and Vancouver.
What I'd like to know is when the primo birding time for such a trip would
be. I guess we'd like to be able to see as many local breeders as possible
so early summer seems like the a good time. On the other hand, spring
migration could peak earlier (I suppose), say late April, early May. Would
the middle two weeks of May give us an opportunity to see breeding gulls,
alcids, other seabirds as well as hummers? What about passerines?

Considering the low volume on this group lately any answers might as well be
posted. Thanks in advance.

Gregg
