I was out with a group--large group--on Lake Ontario on Saturday, and we had a pleasant day with some interesting birds. Most interesting, about a dozen Parasitic Jaegers. Also a 1st year "Thayer's" Gull, maybe 100 Common Loons, a few White-winged Scoters, some "black" scoters, a few Common Terns, many herring, ring-billed, and Grt. Black-backed gulls, and a few Bonaparte's Gulls. A flock of Golden Plovers passed over, and we saw a few other shorebirds--no phalaropes! Also, a winter wren landed on the boat in the a.m., studied us, and decided to head for shore. I bet it made it (only ca. 5 miles). Earlier in the week, a "glossy" ibis (immature; could have been a WHite- faced) was reported. Lots of Myrtle Warblers and sparrows (white-crn., white-thrt., junco) moving through on Sunday. --Jim Rising -- Name: Jim Rising Mail: Dept. Zoology, Univ.
