[rec.birds] More yanks in Britain

jhiggott@oyster.axion.bt.co.uk (Jeff Higgott) (01/11/90)

At the time of writing (well up until last weekend at least) there were
two Dark-eyed Juncos in England.

One, a first-winter bird has been around since the beginning of December
last year.

The other apparently was first seen in May 1987 on one date. The record was
rejected by our Rarities Committee. However it reappeared again for one day
in the spring of the following year. In Feb 1989 it was seen, briefly in
someones garden. There were no further sightings until December 26 when
again it was seen in a back garden. It has been present ever since.

Other news from Britain concerns a male Black Duck and American Wigeon
in Scotland, Rose-coloured Starling alongside the immature Junco and a
White-tailed Eagle seen yesterday in Nurfolk. (Also the Red-breated
Nuthatch is still around in Holkham Pines.
