The net.cooks readership is thinking about collectively assembling a cookbook. I originally posted a suggestion to create a net.cooks.recipes, but based on response and general flamage about newsgroups, I've decided that it should be created as a moderated group. I will happily volunteer to be the moderator, though I won't fight anybody if they decide that they would rather be the moderator--it's more a willingness and a belief that I know how to do it, rather than a heartfelt need. My intention is that mod.recipes have recipes sent out in nroff/troff format, and also periodic issuance of software that people can use to make cookbooks out of what they find there. I know that some small percentage of the net does not have access to nroff/troff, but somehow I can't get excited about that. I intend to keep my master copies of the recipes in Scribe format, and compile them down into xroff before posting them, but that shouldn't concern you all. Naturally I will cull good recipes from net.cooks, and also send out things that people post directly. -- Brian Reid decwrl!glacier!reid Stanford reid@SU-Glacier.ARPA

As a habitual reader, if not contributor, of net.cooks I can support that there is a fair number of recipes now being posted, with the potential for that to increase with the formation of mod.recipes DEMONSTRATION OF EXISTING VOLUME __ right guys? I'd of course support Brian as moderator, at least I won't have too :-) Besides, it's nice to see something in net.news.group besides flames about net.bizarre and net.internat :-) -- Tom Beach email: ..tektronix!tekecs!tomb "The past is another country; they do things differently there."

I think this is a great idea. We could even build a little software to collect and maintain a cookbook (at sites that want one) based around the idea of John Quarterman's uuhosts. That would allow the messages from mod.recipies to be automatically added to the cookbook and redo the index.
