THE OWL

(the following may be sung to The Sounds of Silence)

Hello darkness, my old friend.
It's time for me to hunt again.
For my vision sharp and keen and clear
Is best when day is gone and night is here.
By light of moon I'll spread my wings and fly
Into the night.
For I'm an owl...
An owl.

Throughout the darkened sky I soar
On silent wings forevermore.
The world below me is as clear and bright
As is the day for those who sleep by night.
And my eyes across the landscape play
To find my prey.
For I'm an owl...
An owl.

My feathers, soft and light as air,
Hide great claws that strike and tear.
They warm me when the winter chill is nigh,
And make not a sound as I pass by.
And my prey will not hear me descend,
Until the end.
For I'm an owl...
An owl.

A shadow in the night am I,
The ghostly spirit of the sky.
Until the morning sun dawns in the east,
I return home with my prey to feast.
To my nest I glide without a sound,
To lay me down...
For I'm an owl...
An owl.
