[rec.birds] Spring is approaching...

grp@unify.uucp (Greg Pasquariello) (02/23/90)

Well, once again spring is around the corner, and I am getting antsy
waiting for all the new birds to arrive. My question is, what arrives
here, and when? This is my first spring outside of NJ, and it is really
strange not having any idea of when birds may come through.

I imagine in NJ, cardinals and titmice are singing on warm days. Grackles
must be all over the place, and I imagine turkey vultures are being seen
more often. A trip to the Great Swamp would probably turn up lots of Great
Blue Herons hanging out near their rookery, and I bet Great-horned owl nests
are easy to find.

The problem with this time of year, is that I usually get all fired up
for arriving species, then have to wait until April for any substantial
migration.
