[rec.birds] Ruffled Grouse in Woodridge

On memorial day I spotted a ruffled grouse in my yard. At least that's
as close as I could get to with my North American Bird Guide. The
bird was predominately brown with white and tan dots. The tail feathers
had yellow lines running across the feathers. On its head was a little
2 or 3" puff of red. The guide said they are found in this area, but
I've never seen one. Woodridge is a suburb of Chicago, about 30 miles
away. It's located next to the Green Valley nature reserve, which
contains wetlands. I've spotted White Egrets there last summer. A little
tidbit for readers of this group in the Chicago area.
