I have a question about the possible identity of a flock of white birds I saw in State College, Pennsylvania at the end of May. These birds were wheeling around in a loose, chaotic flock very high in the sky in late afternoon. They appeared to be very high and very large. At first they were fairly close together; as I watched, they spread out more, and evantually flew to the northeast, but in a very scattered pattern. They were clearly white. The silhouettes didn't resemble geese or egrets. At first I thought they were gulls, but we're in central Pennsylvania and also they were much larger. Their wings were shorter than goose or egret wings. Possibilities: big white owls or swans? I am extremely curious and would appreciate theories emailed to me or posted to this group if you think everybody might be interested.
