My female cockatiel has picked up an annoying problem (more to her than to me, it would seem). She seems to have an irritation or some strong desire to constantly preen a certain area on her back, right between the wings. Unfortunately, she squawks as if it's painful to preen there, while nowhere else bothers her. There's no indications of any skin irritation, mites, or new feathers. As a matter of fact, she's very happy to let you examine the spot, and doesn't react as if there is any pain or stinging. Covering the cage also calms her actions down, and she can go for hours without paying attention to the area. No new items have been added to the cage or diet. Even though it seems to be improving (at the moment), I'm curious if anyone has any ideas on what might be bothering her. (Though, in defense, she has seemed to be much more friendly lately... :-) -- ________Robert J.
