The Colorado Hotline will be upcoming after this important word from the SPONSOR: ADOPT A HOTLINE (for 25 cents a week) This report was SNAIL MAILED to me by the compiler David Martin. I have provided him with SASEs that he can simply pop the HOTLINE into and then mail to me where I then put it on disk and post. GEE! YOU COULD DO THAT TOO! Target a hotline, contact the compiler, spend a little money ( who pays for MY phone bill ? ). The success of providing the nation's birding hotlines depends on lots and lots of people taking a little initiative. By the way, be sure to post your hotline contribution directly to BIRD_RBA@ARIZVM1.ARIZONA.EDU where it then will be distributed to all the networks. Chuck Williamson 6-6-90 COLORADO - Statewide (303) 423-5582 This is the Colorado Bird Report, sponsored by Denver Field Ornithologists, updated on May 29th. A SWAINSON'S WARBLER, found by Howe, was seen in Fort Collins at 8:00 AM on May 29th. This warbler was found about 1/4 mile north of the Prospect Street Bridge along the west side of the Poudre River. To find this Swainson's Warbler park behind the orthopedic center which is located on the northwest side of the Prospect Street Bridge. From here take the bike path east and then north along the Poudre River. When you come to a pond on the left with an overflow stream which crosses over the bike path (where you might need rubber boors to cross, look for an open gate with benches beyond this stream. From this spot follow the path north for another 250 feet to another bench with an old screech owl box above it. The SWAINSON'S WARBLER was found along the river behind this bench. This warbler was quietly foraging on the ground beneath a tangle of green ash, Russian olive and willow. Also look for a Caspian Tern along the river here. A singing male GOLDEN-WINGED WARBLER was found at Dixon Reservoir west of Fort Collins on May 29th by Leatherman and Roller. This warbler was seen on the right side of the path about 200 yards east of the Dixon Reservoir parking lot. A BRONZED COWBIRD was seen all day on May 29th in the Carter's yard on Green Mountain Drive in Lakewood. This cowbird, a first state record, comes to a birdbath and feeder in the yard. Look for the cowbird from the grassy rise or berm just east of the driveway leading from Green Mountain Drive to the parking lot of the LDS church, which is located at the corner of Green Mountain Drive and Alameda Parkway. The Carter's yard is the second one south of Green Mountain Drive, with the feeders. A YELLOW-THROATED VIREO, first found by Keliner, was seen again on May 29th at Chatfield State Park. This vireo was seen on the west side of the Platte River, upstream from Kingfisher Bridge, where the asphalt path loops back. Also look for a singing OVENBIRD just south of this spot. A male BAY-BREASTED WARBLER was seen by Mammoser in Rocky Mountain Park on May 28th. To find this warbler, park in the east parking lot of the Lawn Lake flood alluvial fan. Walk up the trail 150 to 200 feet, and look in the tops of thinly leaved aspen here. Three LESSER NIGHTHAWKS, first found by Prather, were seen again at Two-buttes Reservoir between 8:00 and 8:30 in evening of the May 27th.
