This is the Voice of New Jersey Audubon for Wednesday, June 6, 1990, with reports of CAVE SWALLOW, ARCTIC TERN, BROWN PELICAN, both CROSSBILLS, BALD EAGLE, local reports, and seasonal reports of interest. CAVE SWALLOW continued to be seen this week in Cape May at Bunker Pond in the State Park, often in the company of Cliff and Bank Swallows. BROWN PELICAN was reported in Cape May on May 30. An ARCTIC TERN was in South Cape May on May 30. Both CROSSBILLS were reported on Route 515, 5.3 miles north of Rt. 23, in the upper spruce grove, on June 4. Ten CROSSBILLS were seen including one male RED and two or three female or young WHITEWINGS. BALD EAGLES were reported this week as follows: an immature in Great Swamp on June 3, at the observation blind; another at the New Jersey entrance to the Lincoln Tunnel; and two over Wayne, also immatures. Another continues to be seen in various locations around Monmouth County from Highlands to Hazlett. A JUNCO was reported trilling on territory off Range Rd., on Cherry Ridge near Canistear Rd. ALDER FLYCATCHER was reported from Black River June 2, one-half mile in from Pleasant Hill Rd. on the old railroad bed. Birds seen on Clinton Road, West Milford, on June 3 included SOLITARY VIREO, HOODED WARBLER, RED-SHOULDERED HAWK, COOPERS HAWK, and PILEATED WOODPECKER. GOLDEN-WINGED WARBLER and ALDER FLYCATCHER were seen on Rt. 515 the same day. The YELLOW-THROATED WARBLER singing the Cerulean song returned again this year to Ravine Lake. ORCHARD ORIOLE, WILLOW FLYCATCHER, LEAST FLYCATCHER AND WARBLING VIREO are on territory at Lenape Park in Westfield/Cranford. ORCHARD ORIOLE is also on Pleasant Plains Rd. in Great Swamp.
