Transcriber's note - San Diego Weekly and LA Tape both appear to still be off-hook. -cw- San Diego (619) 479-3400 (daily updates) This is the San Diego Field Ornithologist's Daily Rare Bird Hotline for Wednesday June 6th, 1990 at 4:15 PM. Up in the Cuyamaca Mountains up to 5 PURPLE MARTINS were seen today on Cuyamaca Peak. Numerous BLACK-CHINNED SPARROWS were seen at Kitchen Creek but no GRAY VIREOS. An adult COOPER'S HAWK was seen half-way between Simmon's Flat and Interstate 8. At the Dairymart ponds a LEAST BITTERN was seen yesterday flying over the southwestern corner of the main pond. West of the pond in the thick flooded willows east of Hollister Street a singing SWAINSON'S THRUSH was heard. This report came in a month late but it is interesting if you find yourself up in the Laguna Mountains. A SPOTTED OWL was seen on May the 5th in the Laguna Mountains in Noble Canyon at around 5000 feet elevation in mixed oak and bay laurel. Generally birds reported on private property will not be reported without the permission of the property owner. If you have any questions about local birds or birding call 464-7342 between 8 AM and 8 PM. To report a good bird sighting, wait for the beep, leave your name and telephone number, then tell us what you've seen, the date and time of observation, and the locations as precisely as possible. Thank-you for your interest.
