Well I've finally decided to take the big step and purchase a "real" pair of binoculars. I'm currently looking at the Bausch+Lomb 8x42 "Elite" armoured model. I've tried this one in the field and am sufficiently impressed (after using a $100 modem for the past 3 years). The problem I have is that I've never used any other "expensive" binoculars and don't have anything to compare to. Are the "Elites" a good buy or are there any other models in the same proice-performance range? If anyone owns the 8x42 B+L's out there could give me some comments on satisfaction/gripes/etc I would be very grateful. Comments on user satisfaction on any "high-end" models would also be appreciated. I just want to make sure that (for ~$1000) I'm getting a product which I will be happy with in the next "n" years of Birding.
