I was out on the Potomac River Saturday morning just above Washington DC. I saw five feral geese of a persuasion with which I am not familiar. They looked just like white snow geese, only no black primaries and no black on the bill. They were too large to be Ross' and this is too early in the year for us to be seeing migrants. One had a large, circular, blue patch on the back of its head. I am assuming these are escapes -- anybody familiar enough with domesticated geese to hazard a guess as to what they are? -- Ed Matthews edm@verdix.com Verdix Corporation Headquarters (703) 378-7600 Chantilly, Virginia
