[rec.birds] Low water in SW Ohio

JAHAYES@MIAMIU.BITNET (08/19/90)

Well, if you live within a few dozen miles or so of Hueston Woods
State Park in Ohio (i.e. if you live in Dayton or Cincinnati,
pretty much), the shorebirds, heretofore absent, are now quite
good there. There appears to be a hole in the dam at the base
of this man-made lake, and this has exposed a nice icky mud flat
all the way around the lake (vertical depth drop about three
feet) -- about a ten to thirty foot span. In one day of low
water and some desultory birding yesterday, Alice saw several
Great Blues, a Semipalmated Plover, and a Spotted Sandpiper.
What with the shorebird migration getting going, this may be
a fortunate opportunity to get some pretty close looks at these
birds.

FYI. (Besides, I was pretty sick of the debate over group-splitting!)
