Friends of mine have been in the bird business for 20 years and have done considerable research on air filters/cleaners, etc. They have tried almost every kind on the market and all of them have burned out on cockatoo/cockatiel powerder in a short period of time. the only one that worked for them is the Smokemaster portable (not ceiling mounted) unit that costs about $500.00. The good news is, however, that I run smokemasters near my birds, and a norelco $49.00 ionizer/cleaner in my bedroom. Even with massive amounts of powder that float through the house, the Norelco has been running for over a year and working fine. You just have to replace the filters often. Mikki Barry

My experience is similar to Mikki's. I've used a Bionaire filter and have had to change the filter every month at the least and they can get expensive but they do work very well. Michael
