[rec.birds] Grouse Flying into Wall

rmura@world.std.com (Ron Mura) (10/03/90)

This morning a ruffed grouse flew into an outside wall of my house (a wall,
not a window) and died. It seems particularly strange because the house
sits in more than an acre of open land and the the distance from the wall
it hit to the nearest trees is almost 200 feet.

Any ideas why a grouse, other than possibly a sick bird, would fly into
a wall?

The house is white. There is a large window on the first floor, the top
of which is about 5 feet below the spot the grouse hit.
