Greetings! My cockatiel, Daniel, is a frequent guest at my parent's home. When he's there he usually has run of the house (except when he acts up during mealtimes). If he's not riding around on someone's (usually Dad's) shoulder, he's perched on top of the refrigerator supervising all the activity. With the holiday season approaching, Daniel is looking forward to another vacation with grandma and grandpa. However, my brother is also coming home and he is bringing his DOG! Alex is 50% golden retriever and is convinced his job in life is to chase birds. We are understandably concerned about how the two will get along. My brother is afraid for the bird's life. Daniel is fully flighted and is caged when we can't be around to supervise him. I could arrange for him to get to my parents house a couple of days before the dog arrives so he'd be well established if that helped. Alex is usually kept outside when he can't be supervised inside, but he lives in Albuquerque and we not sure how he'll do in New Jersey in the winter. We don't plan on them having any unsupervised contact, but I'd like not to have to lock up the bird to visit the dog and vice versa. Any advice on how to ensure that everyone has a safe, happy, and healthy holiday would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance, Donna Whitlinger whitling@andromeda.rutgers.edu ..!rutgers!andromeda!whitling
