My wife has two society finches, which she thinks are both male. They are losing feathers on their heads and wings. The local pet store thinks they are picking at one another to establish dominance. She's never observed this; moreover, the birds keep together as much as possible, which *I* wouldn't expect of sparring animals (but I know zilch about birds). So: 1) Anybody have some advice on this particular situation? She has already bought them a bigger (18" cube) cage and added more perches and food/water dishes. The pet store suggested separating the birds, but she doesn't want to do that. 2) Can anybody suggest a good book on finches? Please email replies, as I don't read this group (you'll find me in rec.aquaria...). Thanks in advance. -- Steve Dorner, U of Illinois Computing Services Office Internet: s-dorner@uiuc.edu UUCP: uunet!uiucuxc!uiuc.edu!s-dorner
