[rec.birds] INDOOR: RE Finches/Plucking

susans@cfi.COM (susans) (01/30/91)

I'm no finch expert, but the books I've read dealing with all
types of birds all say that despite the tiny size of finches,
they need BIG cages--an 18 inch "cube" doesn't sound right--
the cage is supposed to be longer than it is high so the birds
can fly back and forth. Finches, unlike hookbills, do not travel
up and down, but back and forth. Where are they going to go in
an 18 inch square cage??

The answer to two males who are plucking each other is probably
to trade one of them for a female. The store should be willing
to do that.
