[rec.birds] Pileateds

jahayes@miavx1.acs.muohio.edu (01/30/91)

My wife and I saw a pileated on the drive back from Washington DC
this last Sunday. It flew across I-70 and lit on a small tree in
the median strip. I got a VERY clear view.

It's not my first, of course - they're really abundant and not at
all shy in the state park just north of here - but it just goes
to show how the damnedest birds show up at the damnedest times,
eh?
