               The National Birding Hotline Cooperative
                             Expands Again!

The National Birding Hotline Cooperative (NBHC) is pleased to
announce the formation of a new discussion list, BIRDCHAT, on the
LISTSERV at ARIZVM1.

Have you wanted to chat about the hotline transcripts on the NBHC's
other three mailing lists but been yelled at by the list moderators when
you tried? BIRDCHAT is for you!

Have you always wanted to gain access to Usenet's rec.birds
discussion list but couldn't because your Bitnet node didn't support a
link to Usenet? BIRDCHAT is for you!

Are you a birder, a bird watcher, or just interested in learning
more about the fascinating world of wild birds? Or are you interested
in birds as a highly visible indicator of ecological conditions? Then
BIRDCHAT is for you!

BIRDCHAT is an unmoderated discussion list on wild birds, birding,
and birders. The subscribers will set the tone of the discussion and
the directions it will take. Our only hope is that BIRDCHAT users will
stick to wild birds and leave messages about pet birds and falconry to
other venues.

You may subscribe to BIRDCHAT by sending an interactive SUBSCRIBE
command or by including a SUBSCRIBE command as the ONLY line of a MAIL
message to LISTSERV@ARIZVM1, as follows:

     Interactive example from CMS:

TELL LISTSERV AT ARIZVM1 SUB BIRDCHAT <Your full name>

     MAIL example:

          SUB BIRDCHAT <Your full name>

To cancel your subscription, issue the SIGNOFF command to
LISTSERV@ARIZVM1:

          SIGNOFF BIRDCHAT

Do NOT send SIGNOFF or other LISTSERV commands to BIRDCHAT!

If you are on the Internet network, subscription messages should be
sent to LISTSERV@ARIZVM1.BITNET and messages to the list should be
mailed to BIRDCHAT@ARIZVM1.BITNET. In some cases, Internet mailer
programs will not know how to get to a local Internet/Bitnet gateway.
If this appears to be a problem for you, send subscription messages to:

          LISTSERV%ARIZVM1.BITNET@CORNELLC.CIT.CORNELL.EDU

and messages for the discussion list to:

          BIRDCHAT%ARIZVM1.BITNET@CORNELLC.CIT.CORNELL.EDU

In addition, please note that the following three mailing lists
are maintained for the purposes of disseminating timely transcripts of
local birding hotline tapes: BIRDEAST, BIRDCNTR, and BIRDWEST. They may
be subscibed to as described above for BIRDCHAT.

The following states are currently represented with transcribed
hotlines on the three regional lists:
