I've got a Fischers Lovebird (Cinnabar) who's been sick some 3 weeks now. He's been to the vet and had a 10-day series of antibiotic shots for a respiratory infection, but that did not bring down his white blood cell count (2x normal) so now the vet is checking for chlamidia, which is psittacosis. But aside from that 1 fact I know nothing about the disease, and I am concerned. I know humans can catch it, and the medicine course is long, but what is the beast? How is it spread? Can it remain dormant in birds for long periods? Any info or experience you have would be appreciated Thanks, Ruth and Cinnabar, Tangier, Jasper and Sepia
