Avocados period. The stuff is poison to birds. Chocolate too.

Why leather?

Is this really true. I have two avacado trees and my Amazon loves
them. Admittedly, he gets only a small portion, and he's just now
going on two years old, so only one avacado season has passed.
Avacado meat is pretty messy too.

Fortunately, my bird has never been a picky eater. He likes (wants)
anything he sees me eating, and gets several fresh vegies every day.
He does seem to go through periods where he prefers the seed to the
vegies, though.

I believe that the coating on the pit is toxic to birds. The fruit
itself is OK but if the bird bites into the pit it may get sick.
The best course is probably to keep the fruit away from the bird
completely. It may not have eaten the pit last time, but it may
think it is a good toy next.

The layer between the meat and the pit is where the toxins are.
In addition, the leaves from the tree are nasty.

I'm jealous, though, I LOVE avacado (I use it in making
sushi) and would love to have a tree...
