I posted this request about a week ago but never got any replies. Knowing the vagaries of the Internet, I assume it disappeared into never-never land. I've only gotten into birding in the last year or so, and soon learned that often I hear birds but don't see them. Or hear them and don't know what to look for. I got a tape and book set, "Song Birds", from Rodale Press but I'd like to know if anyone can recommend other tapes as well. I've seen a couple of Petersen tapes for sale, one categorizing by similarity of songs, another addressing midwest birds (I'm in Illinois), but since they're not cheap ($35 for one and $27 for the other, I think), I wanted to find out how good they are. Are there tapes out there that have several calls/song for each bird? Also, I'd like to get a tape recorder for field recording of birds. Does anyone have a recommendation for a reasonably priced one that gives good quality recordings? (Of course, "reasonable" is different for different people, but I'll take any suggestions.)
