[net.unix-wizards] Re CCE Comand syntax vs UNIX

mat (12/03/82)

In order to allow the CCE types to use unix, why not provide either a
special command interpreter ( not really a UNIX shell, it would have
the command translations wired in ) or a secondary command set. This
kind of emulation was done in Eunice. An alternative would be to provide
a set of 'CCE manager commands', chosen to be different from all current
systems' command sets, and ADD them to all the systems. Either of these
proposals would result in maintanance nightmares, the latter probably
worse that the former. But if we HAVE to d this CCE stuff, then
it makes more sense to retain compatibility for the great majority
of users, old scripts, etc, than to throw all this away to create
partial compatability for the relativly few system administrators who
work on more than one or two systems.
