[rec.birds] Birding in Hawaii

barb@gandalf.nosc.mil (Barbara Peugh) (04/04/89)

Hi!

I would like information on birding areas on the islands of Maui and
Oahu for the last week of April to the first of May. I will have a car
for a week in Maui and a day in Honolulu. Any pointers to areas or
publications would be appreciated.

I'm going to be going out to Hawaii at the end of May/beginning of June.
Can anyone recommend some good birding locations or Hawaiian birding books?
Can anyone tell me the phone numbers of local birding clubs or the phone
number of the Hawaii branch of the Audubon society. I would be interested in
hooking up with a group of fellow birders.

Please respond via E-mail. Thanks in advance.

My family and I went to Maui last November and saw Nene, the Hawaiian
Goose on the road to Haleakala in up country Maui. We also stopped
in Hosmer Grove on the way back down--a good birding spot to see
Apapane, I'iwi, and the Hawaiian Owl--at the time I was not a birder
but I enjoyed it. Hope you enjoy your trip!
