[net.news.group] Moderators or fascists?

asente@Cascade.ARPA (11/07/85)

It seems that one of the principal arguments against moderated groups is
the fear that the moderator will inflict too much of his own personality
upon the group. Whether this is desirable or not is an arguable point
(some of the ARPA mailing list moderators do and it works out well) but
this is a valid point of discussion.

Most of the fears about mod.fascism could be alleviated by allowing
multiple moderators for a group. If a posting is rejected by one
moderator, it could be re-submitted to another for inclusion. If the
news software were to allow multiple moderators there might be less
argument against the moderated groups. (Maybe it already does?)

The issue remains, however, of getting moderators. With the proper
tools, moderating a group should take only a little more effort than
reading the group. If these tools could be made available (I'm sure
they exist--moderators must have created some by now) more people might
be willing to be moderators (I know that I would).
