[rec.birds] Vet Visit -- Sad ending

fleming@acsu.buffalo.edu (christine m fleming) (06/04/91)

My poor little parakeet got a lot worse this weekend, and
unfortunately the dr. had to give her a shot.

She had a tumor in her stomach, which eventually paralyzed on of her
legs. I was very sad to have to lose her, but, it was for the best.
She couldn't walk and perching was becoming too painful. I am
extremely sad and miss her.

What i would like to know, is there any way that this can be prevented
in my other parakeet. Is it genetic? If so, is it more common in some
mutations than others? (I don't want to go through this again, and i
don't want my birds to get sick if it is preventable...)

I almost have to get another female parakeet: my male has been calling
and calling for poor little Maranga. I was hoping that having a new
friend will cheer him up...
