CA. Western Tanagers are common this time of year, although they normally stay pretty high in the canopy. Yesterday and today I've been having one of them repeatedly land in a branch outside my window, fly up to the window and bump it with his beak. He then flies back to the branch, and then repeats this about 10-20 times. Then he flies up into the same tree and sings for a while, then comes back and repeats the performance. I thought he might be seeing himself in the glass but this morning when he started it was fairly dark and I dont think there would have been any reflection. He has done this same behavior at 2 different windows. Sometimes he sits on the window sill and looks in. Beautiful bird. Looks healthy, too. Any ideas what he's up to? briond@gold.gvg.tek.com
