Help with brooding budgies: We've got two brooding budgie pairs in rather close proximity - too close, since one pair is dominating all the food dispensers. Actually, they're not brooding anymore - 4 out of 4 hatched, the oldest is about 2.5 weeks old, and 2/3 have hatched this week. Not bad for their first clutches, but bad for us as we are still trying to figure out how to manage them.... So, we want to move the combative pair into regular flight cage that is about 3.5 feet long, 2 wide and 2 high. There are 4 others in there. Does anyone foresee any problems? Also, at what point should the male be separated from the female? The father of the oldest brood is making all the motions of trying to induce the female to copulate. I really hope she is not fertile, as her first brood is not old enough to leave the nest box yet. Thanks in advance, Mitchell ga.may@forsythe.stanford.edu
