[rec.birds] EGG-EATER

martinez@rodan.acs.syr.edu (Kenneth Mtz. (YONIX)) (06/15/91)

While taking my lunch break at the Plant where I work I came across
a small blueish egg. Half the size of my thumb.. It was cracked and
I couldn't help to open it up to see what was inside. Unexpectedly
I found it hadn't rotten as a matter of fact it looked like the
eggs I had eated that morning... As I mentioned it was my lunck
break I had forgotten to bring food that day and for a split second
I thought I could ... you know... give it a ...swallow. I tell you
that egg must've just fallen with the heavy wind that morning.

In any case I decided not too, would it have been a foolish thing?
or did I just miss one of natures most delicious snacks???

....I keep thinking that it was better not too eat it ... cause
it was so small it probably would've increased my appetite.

Is it possible for any of you to identify what bird layed that egg?

There are a lot of sparrows around and a couple of those long pointed
beak, greasy/feathered blackbirds. And some orange breasted melodic ones.

By the way haven't heard from all you falconry fans lately whazzup!!

Saw this program on T.V. there was a guy near Albany I think(?) who
has a bird sanctuary? He recently acquired a badly damaged Bald Eagle
female... he had a male already.. both I believe unable to fly.. It
seems to have been love at first sight.. Both can't fly and they've
tried mating although yet unsuccessfully. Has this been done before?

Hey Sam (Conway) have you guys in Vermont achieved any Birds of Prey
  mating?
