The Canada Communication Group has just published _French Nomenclature of North American Birds_. According to the blurb, "This publication (No. 202) contains approximately 2,000 entries. The authors' primary objective was to provide a French name for each bird species mentioned in the _Check-list of North American Birds_, 6th edition (AOU 1983), and its 35th, 36th and 37th supplements (A.O.U. 1985, 1987, 1989) *covering all North American, Central American, West Indian and Hawaiian species* [emphasis added]. [...] Synonyms of French and English names can be found in two separate indices." I wonder how many of the French names for birds in this nomenclature have been made up by the authors, and how many had some kind of official status before now. Anyway, if you're interested in this, you can get it from Canada Communications Group-Publishing, Ottawa, Canada K1A 0S9. Price is $13.95 in Canada and US$16.75 outside Canada.
