[net.unix-wizards] 4.1BSD paging

I have a question about how 4.1bsd handles page faults (I have studied
the code somewhat, but I do not yet understand it). My question is as follows:
suppose a kernel routine wishes to examine a page in a process's address space.
Will the kernel become upset if that page is not in core at that time? If not,
would such a page need to be in the address space of the running process, or is
there a way for the kernel to intelligently poke through the swap space for that
page?

Thanks in advance,
John Woods
