Can anyone help me? A good friend is a California State Policeman and ham operator, not having access to the net, he has asked me to post this for him. Since joining the force he was issued a GE radio that operates on their (one and only) frequency 460.375. The radio looks like it is years old and has been used by numerous officers before him. He goes on to say that it is only on a good day that he can hit the local repeater. Asking the dept. what they were/are going to do about this, just resulted with a firm "NOTHING" for a response. He has now decided to, at his expense, purchase a radio. Being a ham he concluded that it would be nice if he could get a 70 cm (or even better a 2m and 70cm "dual-bander") that would allow him to talk on 460.375 as well as the 70 cm ham band. Please note: (for all ready to send me hate mail) he has proof that he is licensed for both the 70cm band, as well as, the State Police 460Mhz frequency. DOES ANYBODY KNOW OF A HAM PORTABLE (Kenwood, Icom, Yeasu, etc.) THAT COMES WITH THIS RANGE, OR (MORE LIKELY) CAN BE MODIFIED FOR THIS RANGE? I heard (awhile ago) that the Kenwood TH-45 could be PLL adjusted so it would transmit as high as 465 Mhz; is there any truth to this? Any other tricks, tips, or ideas? Thanks in advance for all the help! Please send ALL responses to my e-mail address: asplund@castor.usc.edu --Daryl
