I'm an electronics hobbyist. Recently I thought it might
be fun to build a little stereoscopic video imaging system
that could be mounted on various platforms for experiments
in telepresence. To do this I need two small CCD imagers
or vidicon tubes and their associated optics and electronics,
and two small monitors, one for each eye.
It occured to me that camcorders have all this stuff and
in a compact, low-power form. Of course I don't need
or want the mechanical parts or tape transport mechanism.
Does anyone know where just the optics and electronics
for these things can be bought? Alternatively, does
anyone know where old camcorders go to die when the heads
or transports go and the owner doesn't want to bother with
the cost or trouble of replacing them? Remember, I need
two *matching* units for stereovision. Thanks in advance.

PS -- I know this has nothing to do with ham radio but
I included that in my distribution list because
there are a lot of electronics hobbyists and
connoisseurs of electronic junk among hams.
