[rec.ham-radio] Herb et. al.

I almost hate to ask about this, but would someone please e-mail me a rundown
of the "Herbie" situation? I listened in yesterday on 14.313. I heard Herb
loud and clear; he seems to have a magnificent station. However, what I heard
was a rational, reasonable man trying to enjoying chatting with other hams.
He and his buddies were polite about letting other people join in.

What I also heard was hundreds of absolute jerks trying to shut Herb down via
massive QRM (a violation of FCC regulations). Some of them were singing (which
is also a violation of the regs). Many used foul language (yet another
violation of the regs).

Then I tuned up a few kHz and heard an equally rational and reasonable sounding
gentleman telling someone else that Herb had long since worn out his welcome.
Unfortunately, he didn't elaborate enough for me to figure the situation out.

Please, I'm terribly curious. Obviously there are a lot of hams out there
that ABSOLUTELY DESPISE Herb. I heard them myself. What is Herb supposed to
have done to P.O. these people so much? I didn't hear anything bad. I don't
understand why the people that don't like to listen to him can't just tune
over to another frequency. After all, there's plenty of room for all of us.
I thought we worried about not having enough hams, right?

Any elucidation will be greatly appreciated.
