[rec.video] Micro SPMTE

harald@leo.UUCP ( Harald Milne) (05/20/88)

	Hot stuff from MicroIllusions.

	Straight from Amazing Computing:

SPMTE reader allows Muxic-X to synchronixe with video or audio tape decks.
Connects via parallel interface, includes pass-through.

Wow, create an Amiga video, synch MIDI playback tracks.

	Hot stuff.

It will be amazing when these guys ship something. I know, it SOUNDS
great but has anyone seen it *personally*?

On the vapor trail.....

MusicX I have seen with my own eyes at the AmiExpo LA in January.

	MicroIllusions also demonstrated Photon Paint.

I asked about Photon Paint delivery, and the reply was 2 weeks. It
turned out to be more like a month and 2 weeks.

MusicX *STILL* has not appeared on the store shelves since. I feel that the
release is RSN. MusicX was advertised in the June issue of Keyboard magazine.
MicroIllusions can't keep this piece of vapor going long without losing all
credibility. Seems the more high tech the product, the longer the wait.

David Joiner is working dilligently on Music-X. He's not one of
those let-me-just-add-this-one-more-feature types. Music-X is draining him
a bit, and he wants to move on to something else.

So you'll see Music-X. It's not entirely clear *when* you'll see
it, but you'll see it.

I've got the Opcode Timecode Machine working well enough under Bill Barton's
midi.library that I can stripe tapes and read the time code off the tape
to provide a time display with quarter-frame resolution on the Amiga. Unlike
the Micro SMPTE interface, the Timecode Machine communicates with the
Amiga entirely via MIDI. The Timecode Machine merges any data appearing
on its MIDI input port with the MTC timing data it generates while reading
tapes, so no MIDI functionality is lost in the process.

Although my stuff is significantly more vaporous than Microillusion's,
I thought I'd point out that there are some other hardware options by which
Amiga SMPTE sync can be achieved.
